Arundel Food Festival Talk

I had a great time at the talk I gave for the Arundel Food Festival last night, I hope everyone who came enjoyed it too. Sarah at The Book Ferret put on some wine and turned the shop over to a cookbook swap – a full house. The recipe swap was also started yesterday and Sarah had hung them up so people can add and take away during the week of the Festival. Felicity actually brought along samples of the biscuits to go with her recipe donation. Have you got a favourite recipe you want to share – want to find a new and inspiring one that some has tried and loved? Get up to The Book Ferret – Sarah also has some lovely new cookery books to choose from.

I will be putting some of the recipes that I included in the talk onto the site over the next few days. Meanwhile if you want to know more about recipes of the past, two good books are 700 Years of English Cooking by Maxime McKendry and A Century of British Cooking by Marguerite Patten. Lucky for you I happen to have a copy of each in stock.

Anyway here are some photographs taken by Christian Doyle Photography

Arundel Food Festival

It is only two weeks away! The third Arundel Food Festival starts on Saturday 20th October with around 60 events throughout the week including Community day with the community chef, apple pressing (if we can find any) Fairtrade tastings, old Sussex recipes and birdie bites from the WWT. On Monday evening I will be joining Sarah at The Book Ferret for a Cook Book Celebration. Brochures are available around town – there will be something for everyone.

Saturday 23rd and Sunday 24th June saw Refried Books at at our first event. The Medfest event at West Deans Gardens. Well the summer weather this year didn’t let up for us and Jim and his team had battened down the marquees the day before with double ties. Even so the wind and showers blew us around a bit.

It was a great weekend though and despite the weather Refried Books did well. Helped by my lovely assistants Carolyn on the Saturday and Terry on the Sunday I had a great time, met lots of lovely people and even sold some books!

So now I am look forward to the next event – news to come.
